To Sustainable Packaging & Beyond

With consumers all over the world becoming more environmentally conscious and proactive, retailers and suppliers everywhere are feeling the need to produce more products with sustainable aspects, so that these properties can be reduced, reused or recycled easily.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 31.2 percent of PET bottles and jars were recycled in 2014, and based on past trends, that number is only going to increase as the total amount of recycling rises.

Packaging is one of the key ways that retailers can establish relationships with their consumers, so it’s important that this aspect fulfills the consumer’s need to be environmentally conscious. This requires brand designers to consider the materials and formats when creating packaging for products, as almost one-third of overall waste is generated from packaging that end ups in the garbage immediately after being purchased or used. Additionally, they must be aware of the methods and technology being used to produce these sustainable products.

Other ways to achieve more sustainable packaging include:

  • Reducing the weight of the product being created
  • Improving the creation process of these products
  • Optimizing the materials that are used in the products, allowing the maximum amount of recycling
  • Increasing the efficiency of the product design to be able to use less materials

By partnering with manufacturers that focus on sustainable practices such as these, retailers and product designers alike can not only boost popularity and brand consciousness of their products among consumers, but they can also create less waste and positively impact the environment.
